2/20/03
Sherry,

After 30+ years in law enforcement - 22+ with the Ca. Highway Patrol and 9+ with Nevada Co. S.O. (working for Bill Butler part of the time), I retired and moved back to Crescent City, Ca. where I had gone to grade school and where most of my family in this state live. Though I am not currently married, I do have a lady. She and I went all through grade school together and, while she is also a '65 grad, it is of Del Norte High. I have three sons ages 31, 30 and 26. Only the 30 yr. old is married. He has MY two granddaughters, ages 9 & 6. They live in No. Carolina where he is stationed and is a Staff Sergeant in the U.S.M.C.

As I said earlier, I was working for one of the two local Indian casino initially. I started out in security. Recently I applied for and was hired as a gaming commissioner by the Elk Valley Rancheria and am involved in overseeing the general operations of the casino and assuring compliance with the applicable gaming laws. There are plans in the works for construction within the next two years of a hotel/convention center/casino complex with an 18 hole Arnold Palmer pro golf course here in Del Norte County. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the location of Del Norte County, we are on the coast at the Ca/Ore state line - just below where Pat Howard lives. It rains a bit here but that makes the redwood trees grow big and the ocean fishing is the greatest, to say nothing of the river fishing - which I won't since I don't!

That's it in a nutshell. Keep up the great work. Hope to see you in '05!
Sam

1/20/05... Update!

Got married in Hawaii in April/04 to a lady with whom I attended elementary school here in Crescent City prior to my family's move to Grass Valley in the summer of 1961. We re-acquainted while I was still living in G.V. and working for the Sheriff's Dept.. No, she wasn't arrested.  I have a girl cousin here who is the same age as us and when I became a "free" man, she couldn't stand it so she hooked me up with her best friend.  My wife (Nicole) is also a member of the Class of '65 but of Del Norte High here in C.C. She is assisting my cousin with the co-ordination of their reunion which is scheduled for the long 4th of July weekend, which I imagine ours will also be.

I am fully retired now and spend some of my time (when not ocean sport fishing, golfing or doing Shriner stuff) playing at selling things on Ebay under the business name "Kerkstuff". It keeps me out of trouble most of the time. Nikki is in real estate management.

That's about it for this note, except to say "Keep up the good work". My wife wishes HER class had a beautiful website like ours.

Thanks for all you do,
Sam
