11/22/2009 ... Immediately after
graduation I spent three years as a Sonar Technician in the
U.S. Navy. The majority of my time was spent at sea aboard
the submarine rescue vessel USS Chanticleer touring various
locations in the western pacific including two short
assignments in Viet Nam.
After the Navy I attended Sierra
College for two semesters on the GI Bill and then accepted
an offer to tour with a San Francisco rock band as an
assistant manager/ roadie. That gig lasted a couple of
years at which time I decided to move on. I then spent a
year exploring possibilities on the north coast in and
around Mendocino. In 1972 I made my way back to good old
Grass Valley and have been here ever since.
I recently retired from my position as
Engineering Manger of Serra Corporation located on the old
Grass Valley Group site on Bitney Springs Road. Serra is a
manufacturer of precision sheet metal products and purchased
the metal manufacturing division from GVG in 1995. I went to
work for GVG in 1977 after several years in the local
construction industry.
I enjoy playing music (guitar and
recently banjo) and golf. A current member of Nevada County
Country Club, I play several times a week. Steve
