Sadie's Slaves Go Casual

This looks like Kenny Page on the left & Steve Hummelt on the right

Casual Day, Slave Day and Sadie Hawkins Day were rolled into one this year with confusing and amusing results.

The day began with the Slave Auction in the gym. Dozens of Senior boys were peddled one by one to a crowd of greedy females. Some boys were bargains (7):  Tony Hardesty sold for 20 cents: Rudi Radomski and Bob Faseler sold two-for-the-price-of-one, $2. But some boys proved to be expensive prizes; especially for steady girlfriends who were trying to prove their faithfulness. The highest-priced model was Ronny Tilton, who sold for $9 to his girlfriend.

Chivalry is not dead, but it has to be forced. All day the boys struggled under the burdens of slavery. Doors had to be opened; books and cafeteria trays carried. Dennis Roberts was seen in the girls' PE class (not scrubbing Vana's back) carrying Vann Chenoweth's archery tackle to the field. Steve Caulkins who was purchased by four girls often had one or two females slung over his back for transportation to classes.

Boys had some revenge that night: Girls were responsible for expenses at the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. Many girls were able to lead their oppressed dates to Marrying Sam's Chapel for a mock marriage.

Twenty-two Seniors Pass Test

Nine seniors received higher or new ratings in the State Civil Service typing test held April 28.

Sue Renfrow and Millie Clark received Senior ratings for 50 or more words per minute. Intermediate ratings were given to Claudia Clark, Judy Denton and Maxine Ivie for having 45-49 words a minute. Donna Bailey, Suzanne Griff, Anita Mabey and Sharon Ratel received Junior ratings for 40-44 words a minute.

A total of 22 Seniors have received typist certificates in the State Civil Service tests given at NUHS this semester.

In Mr. Christin's fifth period Civics class the students had a "party" May 13 while testing the truth of various advertisements. Laura Scudder's Potato Chips are pretty noisy and the hair removing products are effective. (Rudi has a bare patch on his leg.)
