Friday, Nov. 25, 1966 ~ With the arrival of the body of Scott Whitney, 19, United States Army recruit, from Fort Lewis, Washington, earlier than in usual Army procedure, the funeral services have been arranged for 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon (tomorrow) at the Hooper Weaver Mortuary with interment following at Elm Ridge Lawn.

Whitney, a Grass Valley reared youth and former San Francisco City College student, died Tuesday of spinal meningitis at Fort Lewis.  His death was the first in the basic training unit. Whitney had left SFCC to enlist in the Army and was an aspirant for officer's candidate school.

The son of Marjorie Whitney of San Francisco and Winfield Whitney of Redwood City, he is survived, in addition, by a sister Mrs. Richard Bartlett of Auburn; his grandmother, Mrs. Winfield Whitney, Sr., of Palo Alto; an uncle, Robert Whitney of Menlo Park, and a great-uncle, Sam Trevillyan of Grass Valley.

He attended Grass Valley schools from the second through 11th grades, graduating in 1965 from Galileo High School in San Francisco.  While in Grass Valley he was a member of the Cornish Carol Choir.
